Prophet Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام
Adam
was promised by the Almighty Allah that his children would be visited by
Allah's pious prophets, when they stray from the path of righteousness.
Therefore, Allah sent his prophet, Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام to
the idol worshippers. The custom of worshipping idols displeased Allah as He is
the only One who should be worshipped at all times, so he sent Nuh to these
people for the sole purpose of guiding them towards the right path. Nuh
preached the message of Allah to his people and spoke the truth to them. He
struggled for more than nine hundred years. Even after such a long period of
time, a time filled with difficulties and misery, only a handful of people
heeded his call to virtue. Whenever Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام appealed
to his people to seek Allah's approval, and to ask Allah for forgiveness for
all their wrongdoings, they would stick their fingers into their ears so that
they would not hear Nuh's عَلَیهِالسَّلام words
of advantage. They covered their heads with their cloaks and closed their eyes
so that they would not have to see him. After trying every way, he could think
of Nuh warned his people that Allah was about to send a ruinous flood and that
only those would survive it who believed in Him and worshipped Him alone. He
hoped that the thought of the flood would put fear into their hearts and bring
them to the right path. But the non-believers kept on as before. All the more,
he pointed out the rivers which started overflowing their banks indicating the
probability of a disastrous flood. Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام started
building a giant ark. But his people still laughed at him and told him to bring
down whatever punishment he could. Finally, Nuh's عَلَیهِالسَّلام people
made a plan to kill him, and so he prayed to his Lord for help to come quickly.
Nuh's عَلَیهِالسَّلام ark
Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام put in every effort to preach the
word of Allah, in spite of which his people did not agree with him and never
listened to a word he said. One day, after Nuh had been trying for a very long
time, Allah disclosed His intentions of sending a ruinous flood upon all the
disbelievers in the land. All the pious people who showed their trust in Nuh
and believed in Allah, were assured of their safety and the gardens of paradise
on the Day of Judgment. Allah told Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام that
the flood would harm all, except for him and his followers. He ordered Nuh to
gather his followers and build an ark, large enough to hold them and other creatures
of Allah. Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام and his people
subsequently started to put all their efforts into the building of the ark.
Even the building of Nuh's ark was not enough to convince the nonbelievers that
his warnings of a disastrous flood were true. They still refused to worship Allah
and kept believing in their idols and false gods. After a considerably long
period of hard work, the exhausting attempts of Nuh and his people eventually
resulted in the making of a colossal ark. Something enormous enough to
accommodate many living creatures on the surface of the earth. Hence, Nuh عَلَیهِالسَّلام his
followers, and pairs of birds and animals present on the earth then, boarded
the ark in the name of Allah, no sooner had they boarded the ark, than the rain
began to fall. The rivers overflowed. After many days and nights finally the
sky cleared, the ark came to rest on Mount Judi, in Turkey. The people lived
happily in a place free of all sins in the world, where they could pray to
Allah the Almighty at all times. The animals were led to safety too.
