Prophet Saleh عَلَیهِالسَّلام
and the she-camel
Prophet Saleh was a very noble and extremely good-natured
gentleman. The people to whom he was sent were referred to as Thamud. These
people were crooked by nature. There seemed to be no change in them for years.
Saleh عَلَیهِالسَّلام never tired of
preaching and trying to bring some change in them, but the Thamud remained as
vicious and idol-worshippers as ever. One day when Saleh was fed up of them, he
gave them news of a very destructive earthquake about to come their way if they
did not change their evil lifestyles. The Thamud had already made a plan to
stop Saleh عَلَیهِالسَّلام from preaching to
them, so they asked him to do something they thought to be impossible. They
asked him to make a camel appear from the Rocky Mountains. They also wanted it
to deliver a baby in front of them, to convince them of his prophethood. Saleh عَلَیهِالسَّلام prayed to Allah and
soon there appeared an innocent she-camel who delivered a cute baby camel soon
after. Saleh allowed everyone to use its milk and play with the baby, but
warned them of harming her in any way but that was exactly what they did.
Specific days were fixed for the she-camel to drink water from the well, the
people did not like the idea of sharing and decided to get rid of the camel.
They went to the poor she-camel and killed it. The baby, frightened, ran into
the hills. Later in the evening they feasted on its meat, and celebrated their
victory. Saleh disgusted with their behavior, gave them three final days to
repent, after which a terrible earthquake awaited them. Instead of repenting,
they plotted to kill Saleh. But before they could even attempt to do this,
there came the worst earthquake of all times. All the non-believers perished
leaving the land clean as if they had never been. The only people who remained
unharmed were Saleh and those who believed in him.
Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام
and the idols
Long
ago, in a faraway land, a wise boy was born who was named, Ibrahim
He
was a person pure in faith, and was so gracious and kind- hearted that he was
given wisdom by Allah at a very young age. Those were the times when people
used to worship idols made of stones and wood. Even when he was a child,
Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام wondered why they
worshipped idols. One day when all the people were out of the town, Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام took an axe and broke
all the idols, leaving only the biggest statue standing, he hung the axe he had
used on its shoulder. When everyone arrived, they asked him in rage, "Who
did this?" Pointing towards the biggest idol, Ibrahim replied calmly Ask
him!". The people at once answered, "you know he can't speak."
He then said, "Why do you worship things which can't speak, move or even
understand?". The people knew they were wrong but instead of admitting
their mistake they became furious, and proposed to kill Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام They decided to kill him by burning him
alive. As soon as all the mules, carrying wood, were unloaded and a huge fire
was lit up, Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام asked Allah for help.
Just when Ibrahim was being thrown into the immense fire, Allah ordered the
fire to cool down for Ibrahim and it obeyed this command. Ibrahim عَلَیهِالسَّلام remained unharmed but
even this miracle was not enough for some of the hardened non-believers.
